What's Up With Trap?

When it comes to trap music in the EDM scene, if you're not a fan, you've probably said to yourself, "This is just a glorified rap/hip-hop instrumental". And in some cases, you're probably right. But in reality it's much more than that. Whether you're a fan of the genre or not, or maybe you're not even sure what "EDM Trap" truly is about, you've probably found yourself dancing to a few tracks here and there if you've ever been to a show or music festival.

Trap music, which first emerged primarily in the south from artists like Three 6 Mafia, Lex Luger, Young Jeezy and many more, is a genre filled with a hard hitting attitude that you can feel through the sound of brass, triplet hi hats, hard hitting kicks, snappy snares, and low end 808's.

However, the "EDM Trap Movement" is evolving more vividly than ever lately. Nowadays it's consisted of more sounds from your typical EDM genres such as dubstep, trance, and house etc. And even if you're not a fan of said genres, I guarantee you'll find yourself having probably one of the best times of your life at a trap artists show!

Artists such as Flosstradamus, RL Grime, Bro Safari, Notixx, and MANY more are some of the founders that have taken trap music in the EDM scene and have brought it to life and full fruition. But don't get it twisted, these are just a handful of the hundreds of thousands artists out there that still have yet to even make a name for themselves but still have great music to offer.

So if you think EDM is all about the dark themed, and grimy bass wobbles, then maybe it's time you open yourself up to what EDM truly has to offer and the small parts that it's made up of.

I say give EDM Trap a chance.
